Sometimes you see things and you are drawn to them because they take you back to a memory, back to your kiddyhood.

Perhaps that was why I was drawn to this jewellery collection by Miss Bibi , a hot pink rubber ring with a blinging crystal on it? Oh my gosh, when I was 7 that was my idea of heaven! Or a ring made up of a cluster of Nerds ( sweets- duh!) , a pretty bracelet called Scooby Doo , and for the tomboys a gold plated toy soldier necklace.

Miss Bibi , is actually Brigitte Giraudi , and she hails from Monaco,( Monaco ! ) she loves doll houses ( come on girls , don’t we all? ) and all things small and playful and applies this aesthetic to her collection of fine jewellery.

May it bring out the funny little girl in you!

Here is a justified rant from Jen ( we miss you Jen ! )

I love Instagram. But today it made me angry. And I want to tell you why.

I follow Coolhunting, which is generally interesting and does what it says, shows cool things in the design world. Not today.

Today it was more like Foolhunting.

They featured a Brooklyn, NYC toile style wallpaper, stocked at MoMA.

The problem with this is, it’s by a small company called Flavor Paper(a collaboration with Mike D from The Beastie Boys).

NOT the wonderful guys at Timorous Beasties <http://www.timorousbeasties.com/shop/wallcoverings/1497/new-york-toile/> who were the innovators at reinvigorating toile with modern, often dark, London, Glasgow and NY scenes. (If you’ve ever tried on anything in store, you would have noticed we have their London wallpaper in the changing room)

It doesn’t say much about the integrity of MoMA, stocking product that is a direct rip off of established artists.

Seems Top Shop has done even worse. Copied their design and put it on a ONESIE. Why not just pay the original artist???

I have a girl crush on the Studio Nicholson girl. It’s because she is effortlessly chic in flat shoes , oversize jumpers and man tailored trousers. The Studio Nicholson girl doesn’t suffer to look beautiful, and knows that tight and short doesn’t mean sexy. The Studio Nicholson girl is probably English and I bet she’s got a wicked trainer collection sitting along side her Miu Miu heels. This label is all about simple elegance , nothing fancy here just simple perfection.

What is not to love?

One of favourite brands here at The Standard Store is Folk , because its just lovely timeless , understated and original. Luckily Folk is also a favourite with our customers ( what impeccable taste you have ! ) We are loving loving loving the moccasin shoes for boys and girls – a refreshing change from the dessert boot. And girls if you want the perfect flat boot that won’t look irrelevant in a few years from now , then Folk has nailed it with the Steph boots. And of course the boys can look marvellous in beautifully cut Folk shirts and folky knits.

We know its Fashion week and everyone else is celebrating all things fashionably Australian, but this week at Standard Central, we are clapping our hands over our latest deliveries from the Big Apple.

Introducing ‘In God We Trust’. This accessory label from Brooklyn girl Shana features beautifully hand-made must-haves (money clips, hip flasks, pendant necklaces) delicately scribed with potty mouthed phrases more likely to be heard flying from a Taxi-cab’s side window in Downtown Manhattan than scratched onto fine jewellery. A million miles away from the polite boulevards of Paris!

I think I love Bobi ,Bobi is chic and practical- so what is not to love ? but Igor is so stylish, but a little hot tempered, and Jojo…little Jojo is so cute. I know some girls who have eyes for Albert and only Albert. Then there is Momo, if you are going to go dancing all night you have to take Momo.

Choices choices, its so hard to choose a Jerome Dreyfus bag, but once you have its a love affair that will last forever.

Beautifully crafted, ingeniously designed ( he’s Isabelle Marant’s husband ! ) and so frenchy so so chic.

Return Of The Mack

How could Mark Morrison have known all the way back then ? Cos the Mack really is back, in all its heavenly glory.

Classic yet totally contemporary, the original Mackintosh (with a K , don’t you know ) is a magical thing. Made from waterproof material, as used by the British Army back in the day, the new Mack is still totally handmade out of a little factory in middle scotland. All it’s rain-coaty seams are sealed tight, it’s light as a feather and comes in a mouthwateringly ”so hot right now ” cobalt blue, or the more traditional black, navy and beige.

We’ve said it. So did Mack and we reckon people will say it again next year too, cos the Mack is ALWAYS back.

Or perhaps it never went away…..

Chinti and Parker

A very wise friend once told me that if one wants to stay warm then one should wear cashmere. If you want to be warm and look cute to boot then you should wear Chinti and Parker cashmere. Rainbow hearts anyone ? I mean how sweet is that? Yes cashmere is a bit of an investment but we stick to our mantra here at The Standard Store and say ” quality only hurts once “.
